The Lake Michigan basin is one of Wisconsin’s
most treasured and heavily used resources. The watershed is an
essential component of the economic and cultural identity of our
region, as well as supporting a unique and impressive array of
biological diversity. However, the basin is densely populated and
growing at an unprecedented pace. If meaningful land protection
is to occur in this region it must happen strategically and it
must happen now.
Gathering Waters Conservancy and the Lake Michigan
Shorelands Alliance are
taking action to ensure that we all work together to preserve this
beautiful land along the shoreline for future generations.
GWC and LMSA will host a series of open
and collaborative forums in the Fall of 2008 called the Great
Lake Gatherings.
There will be no charge to attend the Gatherings, which will take
place in key communities along Lake Michigan:
• Green
Bay: September 16, UW-Green Bay Phoenix Rooms
• Sheboygan
Area: October 1, Kohler Art Center
• Mequon:
October 8, Mequon Nature Preserve
• Milwaukee:
October 15, Milwaukee Art Museum
If you live, work, or enjoy spending time in the
Lake Michigan basin, mark your calendar for one of our gatherings
and come see what you can do to keep the Great Lake's future bright!
